Whenever a significant honors show nears, there’s always an outcry to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything in 2014
- Another creative title received no nominations that year
- Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
- Only a few brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge of video game design, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
